Ladoga veterans
Veterans of three wars gathered for a picture on the Streets of Ladoga in 1919. In the second row on the right are Civil War veterans and on the second row on the left are Spanish-American War veterans. Some that are identified are 2nd row second from left--Pete Parker, next left is Charlie Kessler, then Clyde Mote. John McNulty--bottom row second from right. Vern Bryan--sailor in the middle bottom row. On Vern's right is Chet McCrery. Bottom row left--1st Warren Strickler, then Ralph Strickler, then Slim Vice. The stores in the background are Oscar Featherston's Dry Goods Store. Oscar later sold it to Old Man Houston. It is Eleanor Brewer's Antique Store now. On the left was Henry and Henry's Grocery Store which became Bouse's Drug Store in the 50's and is now Sarah Bradley's Photography Studio. Houck's Sodas on the right became Sam Ailes Drug Store and is now a restaurant.

Two empty buildings where the canning company stored canned goods in the winter until they were sold during the war. (Bob’s Dad, Bruce, fired the stoves so that the canned goods would not freeze.)

Just west of the bank was an ice cream shop, later a beauty shop

Sidner’s Dry Goods (West of Sidner’s was an Ice cream store, then Bob Elliot’s gas Station.
Next building upstairs were offices of Dr. Gross and Dr. Blix and Dr. Werts, dentist
After the doctors offices was Bob Warner’s Ford Garage.
Across the alley was the Golden Rule Garage
Going back north on Washington were Edwin Barnard’s home and the Home Comfort Shop.
Next was Dr, Denny’s home and office

Going east on Main Street from Washington Street.

Using the Monon RR as guide
Monon Depot was east of RR tracks on Taylor Street
Across Taylor St was a temporary Ice House with the RR water tower just east of it
Next was the elevator
Across Main Street south of the elevator was the Lumber Yard.  Just east of the Lumber Yard was the city water tower.  (Does anybody remember climbing the water tower and looking out over the town?)
South of the Lumber Yard was McClellan’s Coal Company.
On the west side of the RR tracks at the corner of Sycamore Street and Elm Street was Hillis and Oliver’s Machine Shop.
South of Hillis and Oliver’s was an unused Ice House.
